Some Advantages of Lone Pine Classical School:

  • Latin 100: TWO-WEEK TRIAL offered - Attend class for the first two weeks for just the cost of materials ($25)!   (You will receive our CD/materials and be treated like a "regular" student with full access!)
  • Stellae: ONE-WEEK TRIAL offered - Attend the first week of class free!
  • Latin 100-400: TWO online classes per week, PLUS an optional online help session! That's 3 available sessions per week of LIVE instruction! Help always available via email.
  • Tuition: For 2008-2009, Latin 100-400 Tuition is only $225/semester ($450/year) - less than any other online course! STELLAE tuition is only $50 per 10-week session!
  • Latin 100-400: AUDIT option offered -- Study on your own! You will receive all materials (CD, handouts, Quia access) and be able to observe the two main classes/week for just $100/semester ($200/year). Students "auditing" will not receive grades, take the NLE with us (but may take it on their own), receive individual help, or attend the online help sessions.
  • Latin 100-400: Take the National Latin Exam - you can win an internationally-recognized award! More nationally-recognized resume-builders (National Latin Honor Society, Junior Classical League, etc.) available!
  • STELLAE: Take the national Exploratory Latin Exam (optional) - you can win an award!
  • Audio AND Video Transmission, plus email support. Individual attention!
  • We treat Latin like a LANGUAGE - we learn to think like a Roman and work toward fluency - while maintaining very high curriculum standards and receiving solid preparation to read classical authors.
Compare Lone Pine Classical School with Other Courses

Powerglide - $169.95 - book and CD only; no teacher support. Teaches Latin like a modern language (body parts, family members, shapes) - no preparation to read ancient authors.
Rosetta Stone - $195 - CD; no teacher support. Teaches Latin as if you're preparing to travel to Ancient Rome -- though that may be a great adventure, it's not currently possible.
Other online teacher-led tutorials (3 found) range from $500 to $550 for Latin I, meeting just once a week, with limited individual help / email support.

How To Register for Classes:

As of August 21, 2008, there ARE still one or two open seats in Latin 200 and STELLAE for Fall 2008.
Latin 100 is technically full, but students could "audit" and wait for a seat to open up (which isn't unreasonable to expect).
Turn in your paperwork ASAP to reserve your seat!

  1) Read through this website (explore links to the left) and email Karen Karppinen with any questions you have.

  2) Fill out the New Student Information Form and the Fall 2008 Survey. Email or mail them in. For STELLAE, this will reserve your seat.

  3) For Latin 100-400, send $25 (for the 2-week trial) by check or paypal, so I can mail you a CD and supplementary book(s). For Latin 100-400, this will reserve your seat.
(For Stellae, tuition is not due until after the first week of class -- there is a built-in one-week free trial.)

Paypal: Please ADD 4% IF USING PAYPAL.
2-Week Trial (Latin 100-400 ONLY) = $25 (paying by check)+ $1 = $26 (paying by paypal).
  4) Attend any orientation sessions, order your main textbook (Latin 100), and make sure you have all materials. Check that your computer's microphone works! Print any recommended posters from the CD you received and hang by your computer. (There is no textbook required for Stellae, and no new textbook required for Latin 200.)

  5) After the first week (Stellae) or two weeks (Latin 100-400) of class, send the remainder of the tuition ($50 for fall Stellae, $200 for Latin 100-400) by check or paypal.

Paypal: Please ADD 4% IF USING PAYPAL. Stellae = $50 (paying by check) + $2 = $52 (paying by paypal). Latin 100-400 = $200 (paying by check) + $8 = $208 (paying by paypal).
