LATIN: Latin 200: Continuation of Latin 100, with an introduction to writing in Latin. $225/sem - ask about scholarships/discounts - includes materials/fees + individual help! National Latin Exam – can win award! Orberg chapters 17-35 (finish Book I). Can participate in Latin Club, Colorado Junior Classical League, National Latin Honors Society; can win scholarships and awards. GREAT for college apps! Latin 300/400 (Prose): $225/sem - ask about scholarships/discounts - includes materials/fees + individual help! Caesar, Cicero, Pliny, Vulgate Bible, other authors. (No books to purchase!) Work on Latin composition. National Latin Exam – can win award! Can participate in Latin Club, Colorado Junior Classical League, National Latin Honors Society; can win scholarships and awards. GREAT for college apps! Latin 300/400 (Poetry): $225/sem - ask about scholarships/discounts - includes some materials/fees + individual help! (Some textbooks may need to be purchased.) Catullus, Horace, Ovid, Vergil, Martial - opportunity to do independent reading & explore personal interests. Further work on Latin composition. National Latin Exam – can win award! Can participate in Latin Club, Colorado Junior Classical League, National Latin Honors Society; can win scholarships and awards. GREAT for college apps! Latin STELLAE: Grades 3-7 / Ages 8-12. The course is named "STELLAE" (stars) because it prepares students to be our future Latin superstars! In addition to vocabulary, grammar, history/culture, etc., STELLAE will start practicing for JCL events such as Certamen (Quiz Bowl), read Latin stories, and may choose to take the nationwide Exploratory Latin Exam - your student can win a national award! New students with no Latin experience are very welcome! Stellae will not be offered in 2009-2010, but will be offered again in future school years. All sessions: Explore vocabulary, grammar, geography, history, and daily life in ancient times. Fun activities! Build your English vocabulary and grammar skills! Fall theme (Sept-Nov) 2008: Roman History & Mythology I (Trojan War, Aeneas, Romulus and Remus, kings of Rome, 12 Olympians, basic myths). Tuition: $50 (10 weeks). December: Review for and take the ELE (Exploratory Latin Exam). It's a national exam - You can win an award! Tuition: $30 (Optional Session -- 3 weeks; includes test fee). Spring theme (Jan-April) 2009: Roman Mythology II (heroes - Perseus, Theseus, etc.; monsters; other famous myths). Tuition: $50 (10 weeks). Past themes: Fall 2006: Roman Army (be a spy) Winter 2006: Roman Recreation (art, theatre, entertainment) Spring 2007: Archaeology! Fall 2007: Time Travel to Ancient Rome Spring 2008: Junior JCL (Junior Classical League) - Mock Convention (done every 3rd year) Pre-Calculus (Honors) will be offered in the near future based on demand (and my availability). This thorough college-prep course would prepare students to take A.P. Calculus with us the following school year. Please email Karen Karppinen with questions or to join the interest list! A.P. Calculus (AB or BC - students can choose individually) will be offered the year following Pre-Calculus. Your student would take a national test in May and earn REAL COLLEGE CREDIT (transferable to almost any school in the nation) for this class. A great deal!
