Some Advantages of Lone Pine Classical School:

  • Latin 100-400: TWO-WEEK TRIAL offered - Attend class for the first two weeks for just the cost of materials ($25)! You will receive our CD/materials and be treated like a "regular" student with full access.

  • STELLAE: ONE-WEEK FREE TRIAL offered!

  • Latin 100: TWO online classes per week, PLUS an optional online help session! That's 3 available sessions per week of LIVE instruction! (Other online courses only offer one.) Help always available via email.

  • Tuition: Latin 100-400 tuition is only $225/semester ($450/year) - less than any other online course! STELLAE tuition is only $50 per 10 week session ($30 for the ELE 3-week session in December; includes test fee).

  • Latin 100-400: AUDIT option offered -- Study on your own! You will receive all materials (CD, handouts, Quia access) and be able to observe the two main classes/week for just $100/semester ($200/year). Students "auditing" will not receive grades, take the NLE with us (though you may take it on your own), receive individual help, or attend the help sessions.

  • Latin 100-400: Take the National Latin Exam - you can win an internationally-recognized award! NLE fee is included in tuition! More nationally-recognized resume-builders available.

  • STELLAE: Take the Exploratory Latin Exam (grades 3-8) - you can win an internationally-recognized award! More nationally-recognized resume-builders available!

  • If you'll be in Colorado in the spring, Latin 100-400's can join the Colorado Junior Classical League and attend the state convention with us! All Latin students (100-400 or STELLAE) are invited to attend our End-of-the-Year Latin Party in May!

  • FULL FOUR-YEAR LATIN SEQUENCE offered! Latin 200, 300/400 PROSE, and 300/400 POETRY will be offered as each group of Latin 100 students progresses through the levels.

  • Latin 100: Solid documentation provided for your records - certificate (includes grade and total time spent studying), detailed grade report, written narrative.

  • Not just a book! Latin 100: Bonus materials mailed to you: Supplementary book(s) and a comprehensive teacher-created CD (chapter packets, video clips, audio files, translations of chapters, maps, other activities & handouts). STELLAE: Teacher-created curriculum! You will receive customized handouts/packets and be able to access our Quia page to play Latin games. No book to purchase for Stellae!

  • Access our Quia website for activities, homework, calendar, tests and quizzes - instant feedback! No papers to mail - few emails to send!

  • Latin 100: Join the National Junior Classical League and (based on your grades) the National Latin Honor Society -- two great college application and resume-builders!

  • Audio AND Video Transmission, plus email support. Individual attention!

  • We treat Latin like a LANGUAGE - we learn to think like a Roman and work toward fluency - while maintaining very high curriculum standards and receiving solid preparation to read classical authors.

Compare to other courses:

Powerglide - $169.95 - book and CD only; no teacher support. Teaches Latin like a modern language (body parts, family members, shapes) - no preparation to read ancient authors.
Rosetta Stone - $195 - CD; no teacher support. Teaches Latin as if you're preparing to travel to Ancient Rome -- though that may be a great adventure, it's not currently possible.
The Online Latin School - Seems defunct - emailed contact person and haven't received a reply.
Other online tutorials - $475-$550 for Latin I - audio only (no video), many use the (very dry) Wheelock text. All tutorials found only meet once/week for 1 hour 30 minutes.
